Where are we without the support of our city officials in our quest for equal rights on our roadways? So you would think it would help the cyling community to have a Mayor of a major city finally gain insight into what it feels like to be in our cages so to speak. Not so. The mayor of L.A. was hit by a taxi who failed to yield when pulling away from the curb and into the bike lane, but rather than being compassionate, he refused to press charges agianst the taxi draiver who clearly broke the law and all but blames cyclists for accidents by stating that bikers should be responsible and wear helmets.

You know what they say, everything is bigger in Texas. And personally, I would add that everything is better in Austin. So it only makes sense that Austin, Texas is the home of the longest annual charity ride in the world, the 4,500 mile annual bicycle trek against cancer known as The Sense Corp Texas 4000.

The 56 riders, consisting mostly of college students, will begin their journey on June 5, pedaling out of Cedar Park and cruising into Anchorage, Alaska 62 days later. How’s that for a summer ride?
